Simply put ….
The gospel is the message that tells us we are all separated from God because of our sin and that God, through Jesus Christ only, will forgive us from our sins and give us eternal life with Him in Heaven. It’s a FREE gift, but it cost God dearly. Can you work for it? No, but if you will turn away from your sin and turn to Him, accepting His Son Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, He will freely give it to you.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
This simple message is for all the world.
What is Sin?
Sin simply means that we’ve missed the mark, we’ve fallen short. The result of this sin is death spritually and sometimes physically. It causes an emptiness only God can fill. You know that feeling after you finally get the person, place or thing you always wanted knowing it would bring you happiness, peace or contentment, only to find out that after a while you still feel empty, alone, and bummed out all over again. Yet God, from the beginning of time loved us so much, even when we wanted nothing to do with Him, sent His own Son, His only Son (Jesus) to die in our place and to bridge the gap between Him and ourselves.
How Does One Enter into a Relationship with God?
That’s the key word – “Relationship”. God hates religion! He’s looking for a relationship with you. Jesus clearly lays out the message of salvation that He offers in the gospel in these words:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30)
Also Jesus says …
“I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No man can come to the Father except through Me!” (John 14:6)
We must come to Him.
You need to change the path you’re on. The word “Repent” means to turn. You need to turn from your sin and turn toward God. Don’t make the mistake thinking that you need to clean up your life first before you can come to Christ. He wants you to simply come just as you are… With all of your problems, sins, and shortcomings. He created you, He knows everything about you, and believe it or not, He still loves you very much!!! (see Isaiah 1:18 and Romans 5:8).
So, what must you do to be saved???
- First, Believe! The Bible says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you WILL be saved!” (Romans 10:9)
- Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. (John 3:16)
- Repent and ask Him with a sincere heart to forgive you, to show you who He truly is, and to come into your life. Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior (Matthew 10:32)
